Where: Arizona State Museum, 1013 E. University Blvd., University of Arizona Campus, Tucson, Arizona. The Tour of Tucson will be led by School of Anthropology Faculty Emeriti Dr. Suzanne Fish and Dr. Paul Fish and includes stops at The Old Pascua Museum, University Indian Ruin, and Tumamoc Hill; it returns to ASM at 2:00 pm and includes a boxed lunch (meal options are Regular, Vegetarian, or Vegan).
The Old Pascua Museum and Yaqui Culture Center will be exhibiting their recently completed Spicer Memorial Corner, which commemorates the works of Edward H. and Rosamond B. Spicer. Dr. Edward H. Spicer was an anthropology faculty at UA School of Anthropology from 1946 through 1978, during which he spent much time studying and working with the Yaqui. This exhibit was made possible with funding from the Edward H. and Rosamond B. Spicer Foundation; in kind contributions from Jon Yakobian, owner of Art Effects Woodworking LLC; support from Arizona State Museum; volunteer efforts of the Museum Advisory Committee; Nicholas Barron, University of New Mexico anthropology graduate student; the San Ignacio Yaqui Council; and the community of Old Pascua Village.
Upon leaving the museum, travel back in time through Tucson's distant past as you visit a Hohokam settlement with adobe structures and a platform mound at University Indian Ruin (A.D. 1200 to 1450), and two much earlier villages (400 B.C. and A.D. 500) atop Tumamoc Hill.
When: Saturday, December 5, 2015, 9:00 a.m. Vans will leave from the driveway in front of the Arizona State Museum and return there at 2:00 p.m.
Cost: $40/person for the tour, transportation, and boxed lunch. No portion is tax deductible.
Directions: The Arizona State Museum is east of the main entrance to the U of A, located at University Blvd. and Park Ave. The building is on the north side of University Blvd.
Parking: Parking available at three University garages (there shouldn’t be any charge):
Main Gate Garage: Second Street at Euclid Avenue
Sixth Street Garage: Sixth Street between Park and Highland Avenues
Tyndall Avenue Garage: Tyndall Avenue, between University and Sixth Street
